About GRAPPA
In Short
In the set initiative Gravitation and AstroParticle Physics Amsterdam, or GRAPPA, theoretical physicists, astronomers and particle physicists are gathered to answer the most profound questions in their field. How was the universe created? Where do cosmic rays originate? What is so-called dark matter? What bounds the smallest particles?

It is believed that all these questions are related. To learn about the early stages of the universe, one should also understand the origins of matter and the fundamental forces. Researchers within this priority field are persuading answers to all of these questions and are active along the full extent of physics. GRAPPA will be prioritized on fundamental theories of nature, such as string theory, and the study of extreme objects, such as black holes, and the detection of the Higgs-boson and neutrinos.
Latitude of Approach
Within GRAPPA three different, but complementary, approaches to answer these principal question of nature are applied. Theorists, will use their mathematical knowhow and the knowledge of fundamental theories, while astronomers will join forces to observe phenomena they cannot influence. The particle physicist on the other hand are experts in the innovative manipulation of matter, to observe fundamental particles. Combined, these disciplines are equipped to face the challenge of unravelling the mysteries of the universe.
